Vanilla Franco Set Out a Psychedelic Rock Conduit with 'Traction’

Vanilla Franco is a coarse and visceral solo rock out. It is the brainchild of musician and artist, Joey Quinn. The way he conceives his music is a work of art in itself, let alone the genius of execution. Vanilla Franco is almost like an alter ego. Its deliberate rebellion, vanquishing boldness, and chaotic blast belongs to a nonconforming mind. ‘Traction’ is Vanilla Franck’s debut album. The nine tracks bring a whole new meaning to the title. Rough and rogue as they come, it is full of harsh edges, clawing riffs, burgeoning beats, and villianic candor. Listen Now!

The album is a crumbling alt-rock castle, with each brick whisking off to spaces of garage rock, punk, hard rock, and grunge. ‘Building Pressure’ perfectly exemplifies this. The ardent vocal rhythm, combined with the grit and freedom of punk fills your mind. No gaps or blank spaces. Just pure energy surfacing with combusting power. ‘The Arena’ is also a vocal led punk movement that, like a twin star, revolves with similar features.

The artist fashions a psychedelic wire that the tracks hang off of. It manifests differently in each track. In ‘Picnic’ it is an enveloping presence that transforms the theme. The distortions hang heavily over the scene, pulsing through the smog of vocal emotion. The melody line adds to this perspective, electric with suggestive chords and luminosity. ‘Planes Trains’ also is a grunge presentation whose intensity and vigor reflects titans like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Foo Fighters.

In ‘Good Time’, it is bolstered with garage rock riffs. The beats let the ambiguity of the vocals open. Warping sound effects and experimental accents are psychedelic conduits; the usage, reminiscent of Pink Floyd. ‘Invisible Boys’ carries it lightly. Like smokes and mirrors, it glazes the rampant punk parade. It fully blooms in the bridge, bursting into full form in the climax. You’ll see other remarkably mind-bending accents in tracks like ‘Monkey on a Mission’ and ‘Learn Something’.

‘James Bond’ has a prominent indie rock imprint. Its dazing textures, cerebral guitar lines, and groovy beats are all cast in a hypnotic play of tonality, chroma, and melody. You can instantly pick up on references to Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, and Tame Impala.

Vanilla Franco debuted earlier this year with a string of singles, scheduling over ten releases across twelve months. Some of them are featured here in this album, alongside previously unreleased compositions. The work is monumentally amazing, setting a definite tone for all his upcoming projects. Keep your eyes and minds open. There’s more coming!
