Album Review : Giuseppe Cucè’s ‘21grammi’

Giuseppe Cucè is an Italian singer-songwriter and musician whose music is best described as a global sound. The artist is a traveller, a universal citizen who brings culture to music. A sense of community, authentic life experiences, and a sound so entangled with the feeling of living. That’s what you get with his latest album release, ‘21grammi’, a collection that emboldens the vitality of life and everything that comes with it. Ranging from carnival spaces to deep, personal and intimate reflections, listening to the album is like spending the day with the artist; getting to know his dimensions, his life, and his stories.

The collection opens with ‘È tutto così vero’. With flute flavoured grooves, and a mingling medley of other instrumentals, the track gets to be festive and happy. A feel-good and full song that gets better with time. Guiseppe’s baritones are warm, with a smooth blend of emotion. Come chorus, the song lifts with a richness, with an energy that you definitely would want to start your day with.

This breakout song opens up the stylistic pallet to pop influences. Which the artist explores in tracks like ‘Tutto quello che vuoi’ and ‘Una notte infinita’. In the former, you see it form in the hooks surrounding the neoclassicals, tempo, and vocal style. The latter comes in with an evocative burst of pop that pairs especially well with the swirling synths in the backdrop.

In tracks like ‘Ventuno’ and ‘La mia dea’ are deeper compositions with more expressive melodic lines. They have the blues rock flow; passionate, reflective, and vulnerable. ‘Dimmi cosa vuoi’ has a slow pulse, floating, lilting and flowing as if in deep thought. On the other hand, tracks like ‘Fragile equilibrio’ and ‘Cuore d’inverno’ bring a more dynamic and textured rock atmosphere. With rock riffs, basslines and grooves fuelling the narrative vocals, you get to be immersed in the emotional landscape that the artist brings to life. Listen Now!
