Album Review/ Alt Pop : Dorian’s ‘Reconnected’
Dorian is a singer-songwriter and a pop/ R&B artist. He has a reputation to build such expressive and vulnerable tracks, while also keeping a fun and relatable 21st century dimension to it. He brings glam, he brings power, he brings dance, and a whole lot of color to his music.
His latest release is ‘Reconnected’. Dorian released the title track as a teaser a while ago. Its dynamic rhythm, darting beats, and undeniable pop atmosphere set the scene for this collection. Tracks like ‘OOO’ and ‘GO!!’ are cut from the same cloth as the title track. They both have so much energy, such driving and scaling flows that you will take you right back
Other tracks like ‘BAECATION!’, ‘#DREAMLOVE’, ‘LAST GOODBYE’ and ‘LOVE LETTER’ have such notable R&B and neo soul features. Dorian’s vocals especially take the stage now. As he stretches his voice to envelope the emotion, you can really feel the depth of it take form. It’s quite a beautiful way to listen to the music and enjoy its essence. He literally crafts the theme with vocal nuance, a finest moment of vocal craft. If you enjoy artists like Sam Smith and John Legend, you’ll especially love the work of this artist.
There are also a lot of trap influences in his work. He allows the youthful sphere and dynamism of the style to change the mood and atmosphere of his tracks. In ‘WAKE ME’, ‘FRESH START’, and ‘YOUR PEACE’, you can engage with how the trap and soul interacts in Dorian’s world. Especially in the way the beats contrast and elevate the fluid boundaries of the soul and vocals.
By the time you get to the end of the track, you’ll be swept by the soul-trap blends and combinations that the artist explores, and quite frankly plays with. There’s so much curiosity, craft and creative expression within this album, that really reveals the artistic vision of it all. Listen Now!
