Album Review/ Ambience : Jacqueline Cordes’s ‘Frozen Star’
Jacqueline Cordes’s latest album, ‘Frozen Star’ sounds exactly as it reads. It’s a fantastical world with fresh melodic work, beautiful patterns, storytelling rhythms, and transporting ambiences. The pianist, polyglot and synesthete builds worlds - fairy tales worlds that come alive with imagery, feeling, imaginative frames, and so many stories.
You can just close your eyes and it’ll all form around you, swirling with a life force and energy of its own. It’s nothing short of magic. Because one minute you’re at work or travelling back home and the next minute, you’re enriched by dark green forests, enchanting aquamarine waters, ethereal people, and their elaborate tales. It’s so automatic, so instantaneous.
It’s the perfect album to put in it if you're having a creative day. Just the essence of imagination cast about for you to immerse in, explore and inspire your own work. ‘Illusions of Amethyst’, ‘Verdant Heart’, ‘Realm of the Red Sun’, ‘Dance of the Dead’, and ‘Shadowland’ are prime contenders for this vibe. They have a cinematic sweep, all of them sort of expressive, enacting the kind of compositions that spring a world on the other side of the veil. It feels exactly the same as an ordinary protagonist discovering an extraordinary world. Not only that. These track birth colors in your frame. That amethyst, verdant greens, and the red sun, you’ll catch everywhere. These tracks will readily fit into shows like Game of Thrones, Ozark, and Succession.
The album also works if you’ve had a long day and are just looking to unwind and feel light again. There are many beautiful sonic moments in ‘Transience’, ‘Existense’, and ‘Reflections of Solitude’ that will help you leave the place of stress and anxiety. The tracks are shimmering ambience compositions that ripple sensitively and cast a tranquil scene. It makes you feel like how a tranquil lake or an expansive sky does. That sense of gathering into yourself and becoming whole again. That’s the journey that you’ll make with these tracks.
Some tracks are like lullabies that can sweeten even the dreams that you have. ‘Entering the Dreamscape’, ‘The Skyship of Dreams’, ‘Ordo ab Chao’, and ‘Father and Daughter’ are all sleep music. They have such a seamless way of integrating a sedative state with itself. It leans into it, reinforces it, crafts depth into it and opens it up in a way that makes you easily fall into it. And then a soft journey begin that claims more and more of your consciousness until you disappear into a peaceful slumber. Listen Now!
