Album Review/ Ambient : Nicola Rizzuto’s ‘Ebb & Flow’

Nicola Rizzuto is a composer and songwriter. To him, music is a deep and immersive medium through which he passes on worlds to his listeners. He lets it swirl into languages that can only be felt. The artist’s latest EP is ‘Ebb & Flow’, a four track piano collection that traces the natural pace and evolutions of emotion, experience, and state of mind. It’s the first release in this style. Slow world building, looping singular melodies into a layered, meditative ambience. It’s a great EP to explore the spatial boundaries of your consciousness. To reflect and deepen your contemplation.

The EP starts with ‘Ebb & Flow’, a track that forms and floats like the title suggests. The artist takes great care to expand the spaces that exist between each note, calling the listener’s attention to these moments. It’s fluid, natural, and soft in an intimate way. Listening to it, you’ll feel deeply relaxed and present in the ebb and flow.

‘Ciao Mama’ is a neo-classical lilt. A moody, melancholic dance between the piano melodies and the cello lines. The spiralling complexity of their interaction is affecting. It releases feelings of loss and grief in simple ways. Feels like unravelling, feeling, returning to the honesty of your emotion.

‘Sunrise’ forms on the wings of singular piano melodies. Tinkles of keys, so light that it feels like it’s lifting up into the soundscape. With sunrise, the softness comes before the arc of light streaks the sky. The progression of emotion, colors, and light. Capturing the still rhythms with which all these open into the sunrise, the song is made to emulate not just the feeling of sunrise but the experience of watching it.

‘Awakening’ concludes the EP. It is made with brighter tones and positive notes. All of them composed and played to reach something bigger. With deeper moments of violins, the artist also infuses a grounding into the theme. Two beautiful forces that first forge presence and then a sense of aliveness. Listen Now!
