Album Review/ Art Rock : Bloomfield Machine’s ‘Copium’
Bloomfield Machine is a conceptual music banner with a language of its own. It’s as if they operate on a whole unique spectrum of electronic music. Futuristic electronica mixed with everyday phenomena in a way that is revealing and clarifying. They have a unique way of coalescing existing thoughts and contemplative structures into a more complex form of expression. Known for their cerebral music style and sound, they build on that, compelling you to make the journey through their sound to the emotion on the other side.
Their latest release is ‘Copium’, an album that features a lot of visual elements and aspects of abundance. Plentiful textures, innumerable characters, uncountable perspectives, and always a promise for more. The collection carries a lot of warmth alongside beauty and evocation. And the best way to experience this album is to allow yourself to be dissected, distracted, dispersed, collected, fused, built, compelled, and built by the textural presence. The energy that it exudes, the secrets that they hold. Let yourself be affected by their potential and profoundness and you’ll find yourself coming out the other side, liberated in many small ways.
‘Clusterflux’, ‘A Little Bit of Everywhere’ and ‘Trading Happiness’ present introductions. They float consciousness and contemplations, subtexts for the mind to absorb in preparation for the other tracks. They orient the upcoming arc, giving the listener a part of their vision to build alongside them.
‘Deliberate Confusion’, ‘Diminishing Returns’, ‘Hedonistic Treadmill’ and ‘Thoughts are Noise’ present progressions. A continuum of forming thought. Within the expanse of these tracks, you can let your mind roam, explore, search for thematic discoveries. These tracks have abundance in them and they are very generous with it. You’ll find yourself caught within moments of beauty and mundanity, epiphany and confusions. But it’ll all be well worth your while.
‘Copium’, ‘Destinesia’, ‘Simple City’, and ‘The Beginning of Good’ have a warm, burgeoning air. They are colorful with ideated peaks and draw you into depths of meaning and emotion. Your journey will dictate the peaks that you climb to, the scenes, views that you get to experience. And each one is so unique, filled with novelties that refresh the mind.
‘What’s Next?’, ‘We All Live in a Narcissistic Dream’, and ‘Train to Nowhere’ make up the epilogue. A long drawn post conclusion that builds up the retrospective lenses. Within these tracks, aimlessness is where you want to be. This wandering space has a way of putting everything that you discovered into perspective. These tracks have a melancholic subtext, perhaps indicating to the cyclical nature of ideas, truths, seasons, and life itself. If you’re in a philosophical mood with time on your hands, then you should definitely set sail on this journey across vastness. Perhaps a journey around the world that you know to learn of its edges, pitfalls, heights, and beauty. Listen Now!
