Album Review/ Art Rock : Slow Walk’s ‘The Mountain’
Think of an album where each song is setting the scene, filling it up with people, their stories and their energies. That’s the experience of Slow Walk’s ‘The Mountain’. The album is so versatile, a stylistic flow that borders on familiar and explorative in such an organic way. Very fitting of both the moniker and the title of the album.
The collection opens with ‘Mountain Dreamer’, the track that introduces the expanse, the loftiness and the skies around a mountain. It is dreamy as the name suggests, all its peak characteristics romanticised with beautiful musical notes. Ambient flows interacting with cerebral vocal spaces and sentiments. It’s quite a remarkable introductory track. It’s as if he’s casting the atmosphere, letting it flow, develop and take shape. Absorb energy and then vocally add to it.
We see a similar make up in tracks like ‘From the Town Below’, ‘Don’t Carry That Weight’ and ‘Nature Don’t Care’. His thematic explorations are vast, from what we can gather from these tracks. Each track brings so much perspective and philosophical insight into moments of life. It profound and it is thoughtfully and immersively presented.
Tracks like ‘So Why Mountains?’, ‘High Chance’, and ‘Younger Legs’ have a more youthful streak to them. Dynamic tempos, active beats and a more excited vocal form. We see a lot of pop elements with a streak of unique stylings that he doesn’t give up on, across the album.
Disco accents show up in ‘High Chance’, ‘PONR’. A lot of synth work and flashy beats in there that nicely break up the album. ‘The Pinnacle’ has that exhilarating lightness, of thought and energy. That feeling of feeling your highest and tallest. That’s what you get from this song. ‘Sum it all up’ concludes the track with a folk pop flow. It nicely captures that frames, the full circle moments, and the stylistic journey. An epilogue of sorts that leads us to a satisfying culmination. Listen Now!
