Album Review/ Electro Pop : FREDRYD’s ‘The Way to the Good Life’
Fredryd is an indie DJ and electro pop artist. For his latest album, ‘The Way To the Good Life’, he makes music that bubbles out of the soundscape. It’s so fresh, like running water or a babbling brook. So generous with its liveliness and dynamism. The sound pallet is seemingly designed and curated to bring the theme to life. A conceptual exploration and indulgence that inculcates modern and progressive ideas.
You’ll see so many tracks featuring uplifting rhythms, combined with melodies and momentum that lighten the load, keep it chill and fun. In tracks like ‘Against All Odds (We Can Make it Together)’, ‘Don’t Want to be Alone No More’, and ‘Don’t Mind What They Say’, the artist creates bursting moments, moments that make you feel strong and empowered.
The title track fuses the electric pulses of falling in love and dreaming of a future together to create an addictive song. It had commercial electro pop elements that are reminiscent of Calvin Harris before progressing into genre-fluid expanse.
There are some tracks that are focused on bringing out the beauty and magic of life. There is a sense of surreal romanticism and dancing fantasies manifesting in the music. Like in ‘I Know We Don’t Know Each Other, But Deep Down We Have Things in Common’, the artist explores the wonder of a stranger who you want to be friends with. He also explores themes like serendipity, soulmates, and forever bonds. With colorful tones, catchy harmonies, and rushing rhythms, he captures the feeling of adrenaline. The magical impulses of youth and the feeling of watching them playing out.
In ‘Horses of Freedom’, Fred blends moments of house with melodic techno and dreamy electro pop. With the title already setting an expectation for the fantastical, the artist delivers an otherworld of music, so liberating and full of that exhilarating force that you can just lose yourself in.
‘Conscience?’ is yet another interesting composition. It has mellow cerebral lines. It is composed with a flighty hand. Darting from one point to another to another and then another. It reflects in the rhythm, the layers that form and the drastic change in textures and gradients as they go along. The evasive logic, building emotions, and the purity of the theme, all colliding into each other craftily.
‘The Downside of Your & Their Skepticism, Mistrust, and Avoidance’ is a call to stay positive by highlighting the price that you pay for cynicism. Electro pop with modern electronica. Add in some carrying beat lines and speedy revolutions, and you’ve got yourself a fun number. And just like that the collection keeps surprising you, giving you things to savor and hold on to. It’s such a boost to listen to this album. Like getting a B12 shot or biting into a fresh, juicy tropical fruit. That feeling of ‘life’s good’ is what the artist drives at across the album and you’ll feel it thumping in you by the end of it! Listen Now!
