Album Review/ Folk : Liana Warren’s ‘For Now, Forever’

Liana Warren’s acoustic craft is a beautiful thing. With so many naturalistic elements and delicate alt folk features, the song expands into a meaningful experience. Liana’s music is inspired by her own life and she lets that bleed into her songwriting. The tone is so personal, the lyrics are intimate and confessional; all surmounting to an authentic listening experience. Her latest release is her ‘For Now, Forever’ album, a collection that exemplifies these facets of her songwriting, carrying it with her artistic grace and artful flair.

With ‘Tiny Sprouts (It Begins)’, she opens the album. It is a floating, introductory piece that perhaps points towards the inception of making the album. Within its flickering acoustics, somewhere, it carries the embers of the soft, warm fire that you will experience during the course of the album. It especially marks her poetic engagement, the elegance with which she wields it. It sets a beautiful expectation which is definitely fulfilled.

In tracks like ‘Twin Peaks’, ‘Cleo’s Bath’, and ‘Patterns’, she explores poetic description as a means of setting the scene and storytelling. Blended in with nostalgia, simplicity, and latent sentiments, they become a vivid island of memory and feeling. It stirs something up in the listener’s mind, calling for scenes and frames that have fallen through the cracks or forgotten. Swirling around, it lifts so softly out of the cerebral embed. Her vocals lead the tracks, the acoustics sparking a charming ambience. It is reminiscent of artists like Elliot Smith,  Phoebe Bridgers, and the like.

‘The Apple Tree’ is a softer composition, sliding with dreamy melodies. There is a bluesy feel, that she clarifies with luminous acoustics as it lifts to the service. In ‘Swimming Song’ there’s a beautiful neoclassical wave conditioning the acoustics, smoothening it with its lush serenity. With ‘Paulina’ this template is twirled with summery whimsy. And in ‘Hearts and Mind’ we get to experience a reflective flow that arcs and curves with a ruminative touch. Listen Now!
