Album Review/ Indie Rock : Bolidde’s ‘Rainbow Galaxy’

BOLIDDE is a french songwriter, singer, guitarist, bassist and keyboardist. His vision is multi-faceted and executed with scrumptious layers that you can feast on. In his latest album, ‘Rainbow Galaxy’, he poses music to suit the contextual facets of the theme. All of this to create an immersive and refreshing listening experience for the listener. His instrumental virtuoso and musicality especially shines in this collection. So does his effortless charisma as a songwriter and performer.

The collection has ten tracks, each one its own unique brand of rock/ indie pop. With modern insight into songwriting, his music might be nothing like you’ve heard before. There is a resounding novelty at every curve, revealing with each track. It’s a pleasure to sit through it.

‘Merry Go Round’ opens the album with its circular rhythms, luminous instrumentals and projecting vocals. The riffs and chords are arranged to carry the festivity of the theme, its lights and color. The joy, movement, and excitement. That magical romance of merry go rounds lifts off into dreamy pop rock flows.

This dynamism and electric atmosphere, we see even in tracks like ‘Try My Love’, ‘Golden Age’, ‘Odd Noises’, and ‘Run Away’. Each of these tracks have flamboyant features and a youthful rhythm. They all carry cinematic elements, retro blues and vocals that are so fluid. We see influences from Queen, Bowie, to Radiohead, Nirvana, and The Strokes. Each song has its own spirit, its own agenda and journey. It’s common for albums to have some stylistic stagnation. But the artist reinvents his ideas and music with each soundscape, giving us such dramatic and creative frames.

The title track has a groovy punch, a fun and eccentric engagement. The rhythm is influenced by funk, jazz, and hard rock. All of this is cast in a sort of dreamy, surreal haze, so undeniable and addictive that you want to stay there. This feeling, this atmosphere of cerebral otherworldliness is a part of every track. Perhaps a romantic lens that changes the theme in inexplicable ways.

‘Lea’ is a slow burn, more expressive and vocal intensive. The instrumentals pave the path for the vocal journey. Mountains, valleys, and panoramic scenes all contained within the vocal stretch. It is especially immersive. In ‘Hell in Paradise’, and ‘Questioning’ also we see that explorative vocal flow. Where the artist is reaching, discovering and creating all simultaneously. That depth that forms in this process is so powerful. He lets us have the peak but also the pit. It’s so beautifully authentic. Listen Now!
