Album Review/ Indie Rock : Rare Seed’s ‘Ethereal Enclave’
Rare seed constructs this new album as an oasis that you can escape into. The brand of indie rock is meant to blur your reality, transport you to a surreal world with glassy tones, swatches of light, and a dazing emotional exploration. Their latest release is ‘Ethereal Enclave’, an album that is full of musical treasures. Each track is a glistening jewel made to stimulate the mind, immerse it in music and whisk it away. With drifting rhythms, luminous textures, buoyant tones, and a curving soundscape, they are all so technically and aesthetically sophisticated.
‘El Niño’ opens the album. With its swinging spectrum; classic rock merging with indie rock and hard rock in a way that rewards stylistic indulgence. It is so rich with contemplative vocals, explorative solos, and an expansive call. There’s some country influences that manifest as shimmering accordion pools.
Psychedelic concepts are predominant in the album. Used subtly, it has a smooth way of progressively warping the soundscape. In ‘Foolish Flame’, folk rock is layered with a smoking bedrock of psychedelics. In ‘Lotus Eaters’, it is fleshed out with coarse textures and mysterious bass grooves. The title track is a silky smooth rock song with velvet planes of instrumentals, soft pockets of emotion, and dripping with blues.
The band’s ability to play with alternative styles while also indulging the traditional techniques creates a balance that will leave you wanting more. You’ll see it in tracks like ‘Love Streams’, ‘Liminal Space’ and ‘Clarion Call’, all of them a unique brand of soft rock that is infused with deep layers, warm basslines, and dispersing riffs.
