Alex Wellkers’ Alt Rock Best : ‘Fly Away’

Alex Wellkers is a singer-songwriter and alt rock artist with a very old soul. The artist’s music induces a plane of intense contemplation and deep feeling. Sometimes it’ll make you feel intimate towards existence, other times, your life will feel like a faraway land. The changing melodies and complex rhythms entangle with your thoughts and touch places that you’ve perhaps not visited in a while, or ever. The artist has released his debut album, ‘fly away’. It follows nine EPs that he has been releasing since 2014. This collection is especially profound, containing meditations on themes like life’s brevity, melancholy, earthly ties, and the intricacies of the human experiences. Listen Now!

Alex Wellkers’ vocals have the expressive depth of Freddie Mercury. Straight up. His inflections are lavish and his expression is lofty. Enunciated at every peak, his vocals are valleys of emotion. You’ll especially experience it in tracks like ‘You Want Us’, ‘Making Progress’, ‘Niemals jemals da gewesen’ and ‘Amy’.

The tracks explore a range of contemplative affairs. Depending on the theme, he dresses the soundscapes as ballads, crumbling folk rock pyramids, temperamental blues, or hard rock builds. ‘We Celebrate’ is an asymmetric rock track that falls to and rises from acoustic planes. In ‘Grab The Stars’ and ‘We Try Our Best’, we see the blend of lush classicals with punk addled grunge. A 90s ethos with an atmospheric, Nirvana-esque ethos.

‘What You Think Right Now’ is a driving prog rock track that glows with power and passion. It has a disillusioning effect that will cut through foggy hangovers of heartache, melancholy, and loneliness. ‘We Belong Here’ is a little more upbeat and jolly. Its popping riff breaks are incredibly engaging. ‘Do Not Fall’ concludes the album with a crude garage rock anthem that both shatters and builds up energy. The guitar work is phenomenal and the reverberation is long lasting. An incredible taste to leave the listener with.

More than anything, this album reveals the versatility of the artist. His ability to adapt themes to suit revolving energy frames, and construct grand soundscapes speaks to his multifaceted vision and talent. There’s a sense of refinement, especially in how he performs and presents challenging concepts.
