An Album Review : William Sanfords' ‘Deep Mollusca’

William Sanford is not your ordinary artist. His sonic vision is progressive which means that it is not confined by common rules of genre, technique, and design. They flow with their distinct current, powered by intuition, insight, and imagination. ‘Deep Mollusca’ is the artist’s latest album that spans across an array of styles, textures, themes, and concepts. Lit up with folktronica, ambient synths, and other electronic excitations, they are vivid sonic evolutions that will pop the mind.

The artist’s claim to modernity lies in his music. He moves away from mainstream connections and makes tracks that branch out into underrated spheres; that he adorns with eclectic structures and interesting sonic formats.‘The Pelagic Plunge’ breaks out this album. A combination of mystery and oriental mystique, it is a delightful acoustic sway that leaves an ethereal resonance in its wake. ‘Abyssal Solenogastres’ is a symmetrical delight. Industrial grooves are bolstered with techno beats, and house accents. Each layer peeled back endlessly reveals a new dimension.

‘Neopilina’ discharges a piano ambiance and slowly extrapolates it with the glimmer and glamor of synths. ‘Manna From Above and/or Marine Snow’ casts a nuclear serenity with its dilated pulses and fresh texture. It ebbs and flows with a formless rhythm. Immerse yourself in it and you’ll feel boundless.

Psychedelia proves to be a recurring theme across this collection. Tracks like ‘Muusoctopus’s Garden’, ‘A Sea Butterfly Amongst the Holoplankton’ and ‘The Neritic Crawl’ are oriented towards cerebral stimulation. With abstract spreads and rolling visuals, they absorb the mind. However, tracks like ‘The Terrifying Beautiful Lives of Sea Angels’ and ‘Dentalium’s Detritus Diner’ are made to be viscerally experienced by bodily faculties. Separated by the hip-hop styled drifts in ‘Legends of the Whale Fall’ and ‘Despite Gumboot’s Armor’ and melodic scores, William breathes new life in the word ‘eclectic’. Listen Now!
