EP Review/ Alt Pop - Eva Pagán’s ‘EP1’
Eva Pagán is a singer-songwriter and an alt pop artist. Her style revolves around storytelling, evocative singing, and a mellow, lo-fi alternative soundscape. All of it combines into a fresh and unique piece of sound. The artist is so graceful with her craft, bringing authentic parts of her experiences, emotions, culture and stories so naturalistically to music. And it transforms her music to a language, a way of connecting with her and understanding her art. We especially see it in her latest release, ‘EP1’ , a five-track collection in which each song is its own world. So fresh and stylistically individualistic in the way they explore the themes.
‘Far’ is a heartfelt soul-pop track which smoothens the boundaries of melody and vocals. Two rivers that float along, combine and create a deep and evocative space. It’s intimate, personal and sweet. Accessorized with nature samples and deep R&B melodies, the song even gains a commercial pop flavor in between. This diversity is more pronounced in ‘Till I Die’, a track that influences afro pop with EDM. It’s fun and dynamic, frolicking and joyful. Like you’re falling in love in a rainforest. There’s romance, dance, love, and so much magic in this song! It feels evergreen.
‘NY LA MIA’ has a more modern EDM pulse. It is straight out of a club in a city; edgy, complex, and exponentially dynamic. There are experimental flows, combined with a sense of new and exciting ideas. ‘In The Mirror’ holds some of these ideas but is softened by the confessional vocals. The chorus is so colorful and so alive. It’s as if the melodic swipes and accents come fluttering out of the soundscape. Slipping in and out of Spanish, the song sounds a little bit sweeter each time.
‘4ever’ concludes the EP. A song that glows and multiplies with the theme. It holds the reality of change, especially in love and people. The artist creates such catchy vocal bursts even in this track. It’s addictive because of how new and creative it is. There’s so much life, soul, and musical goodness all over this EP.
