EP Review/ Alternative : Lovina Falls’ ‘Would That

Lovina Falls is the alternative banner of Valerie Forgione, a vivid and vibrant space that explores new ways of fusing energy and music. The artist is not just a musician, she is a performer, an orchestrator of music with visions that far surpass the boundaries and norms that exist today. Her ideas are electric and combusting. Executed with a confident hand and an energetic brilliance, the soundscapes are so fresh, so ready to feed the listener. Her latest release is the ‘Would that It Were’ EP, a collection that is fiery, active, and so alive. Vocal-forward and instrumentally rich, you are in for a treat.

‘Light and Low’ opens the EP. With its strong beat, bounding rhythms and humming riffs, the soundscape instantly comes alive. Her vocals punctuate this space, simple yet memorable. There are a lot of colorful electronic elements, melodies that beep and create a vibrance in the soundscape. They give it that modern electro rock pop spirit. If you enjoy Daft Punk, you’re sure to enjoy the variety and genre-defying ideas in this track.

‘In the Corner, A Fire’ has a similar type of zeal. The electronic forms with a sense of imagery, visual language, and psychedelic performance. It’s trippy with ease of flow and a smooth feel that you can go along with. ‘Ellery Way’ has a similar palette, but it’s stretched out, it’s a little bit slower, more contemplative. There’s a lot of dreamy sequences, with dazing basslines, echoing accents, and a rock drum and guitar line, it has an ethereal feeling. If you like ABBA, you’ll love the vocal flow in this track.

‘About the Sun’ is a modern electronic painting. The pop in the song is so contemporary, new age. Pumped with color in a landscapic kind of way. In a way that makes it seem layered and two dimensional at the same time. The visuals in the song are warped by the vocal character. The artist slathers her vocals with emotions, spills it all, leans into the uniqueness of her feelings and evocation. And that’s what transforms it all

‘Tragedy’ is a spectacularly made alternative rock track. Starting off with a crisp guitar motif, awake yet dazing at the same time. Valerie’s vocals are levelled and steady. Piano melodies start up, the bass groove looping over and over. They beat an echoing thump in the back. Through it all, the vocals are a steady line, striking a contrast. The chorus is a dark, hypnotic pour, the riffs turned up and the vocals repetitive in its tragedy. You’ll see the indie rock style phasing into an alt rock personality. Burning riffs, gunning basslines and the falling vocal lines. All of it just keeps the song alive. It is cerebral, new, and so fantastically fresh. Listen Now!
