EP Review/ Indie Pop : Phyne’s ‘Brighter Than The Sun Part II’

Phyne is a Swiss indie-pop duo with such an eclectic style. They love dynamism and dynamism loves them back. It’s so effortless, the groove, the rhythm and the electronic variance. Their soundscape lights up with these elements, like second nature. Their latest release is ‘Brighter Than The Sun Part II’, a release in two parts. The duo’s style forms in the stylistic contrast between the melancholic drawl of the understated vocals and the propulsive electronic groove.

It leans into the endless nature of tragedy, and draws memorable and complementing stylistic inter-relations. If you enjoy Daft Punk or some of the more understated releases of Glass Animals, then you’ll enjoy the absurd spheres that open up in this band’s soundscapes.

This latest release is composed of dry grooves, so low, so mellow. The soundscape of Part II develops a nocturnal ambience, with moments of striking brightness and energy. We see funk fusing into contemporary jazz flows and modern pop freshness. You’ll see retro influences, 80s record scratches, dreamy disco magic and a lot of dance grooves. The dry vocal passion adds to the charisma. It adds to the mystery and ambiguity of the style.

While Part II is all about alt pop gradients, Part I comes in a more contemplative and contemporary acoustic form. A single mellow groove keeps travelling across the track in a loop. Its energy is matched by the deep vocal plane. Together, they scale, transition and transform. Like a continuum into a surreal wave. If you like spatial artists like Beach House and the ambiences of The Arctic Monkeys, you’ll love Part I of this release. With this track, you get cinematic complexity that smoothly carries you into an ethereal infinity. Listen Now!
