Shane Rennison’s ‘Live at the Outlier Inn’ is Acoustic Elegance

Shane Rennison is a gifted singer-songwriter and pop artist. As a self-taught artist, his music is guided by intuition and a strong sense of self. And it shows up authentically in his songwriting, lyricism, and melodic sequences. The artist recently put out his debut five-track EP titled ‘Nice to Meet You’. This collection ranging across genres like indie-pop, folk, synth-pop, and mellow rock has a powerful evocation. Founded and forming in real emotion and experience, each track conveys honest sentiments.

The artist has supplemented this release with the ‘Live at the Outlier Inn’ series. This curation carries live recordings of three tracks from the EP. And we are here for it. With a complete acoustic outlay, it is beautiful to experience the transformation of the studio recorded versions. Stripped to its bare bones, the melodies are simple and crisp lines. It holds space for Shane to explore the themes with just vocal bandwidth. They make for deeper and more contemplative flows. Listen Now!

The first cover is of the track ‘Closer’. Electric guitar melody lines and beats make up the backdrop. They form dynamic rhythm signatures that nicely contrast the measured vocal narrations. The melancholy in the vocals are a mellow drip like in the original track. It is absorbed and progressively reflected by the instrumentation. And in the bridge, it takes on a passionate spell with riff plays and beats.

‘Ghost’ is a softer bloom. With a gentle plane of piano melodies and muted guitar, Shane’s warm baritones form right at the forefront in a way that the emotions spill into you. The speckled synth patterns we see in the original track are brought out here with the piano textures. ‘Drunk Live Version’ follows with its colorful acoustic rock. Laced with faint country accents, pop vocals, and distortions, it is very well presented. The track, compositionally, is pretty layered and rich. The live version is crafted to carry these layers.

It is pretty incredible how these live/ acoustic versions are adapted in their own right. The artist allows the instruments to roam and forge their own compositional paths to the originals. You can see insight, exploration, and succinct vision in each of these tracks.
