Song Review/ Alt Folk : Elephant Moon’s ‘Where Were You’
With his debut single, ‘Where Were You’, Elephant Moon aka Anders Dal, crafts an alt folk horizon that transfers the experiences of reality to a dreamlike, almost surreal space. The instrumentals are mellow and ambient, but sonorous and enchanting like a siren’s song. The raw acoustics, spilling like drops of warm honey, fluid and swirling, unite with the liquid quality of his storytelling. His style and musical characteristics match that of other ruminating folk artists like Nick Drake. Especially in the way the melancholy manifests with the warmth and softness of sunrise.
Anders’ baritones are full of imagery. They carry emotions like time carries history. There is a translucent film of reality that reveals itself only if you care to see. And amongst the frothing acoustic riffs, a molten guitar line weaves like a country road. A unitary melody that even in its simplicity holds a depth that disarms you and melts you into a puddle. All of this cast in a hypnotic faze, like a nighttime dream, in a moonlight moment. It’s alt folk, explorative modern country at its best. Listen Now!
