Song Review/ Alt Folk : The Joff Lowson Trio’s ‘Little Door’

The Joff Lowson Trio are string instrumentals who usher in such vast spaces and deep emotions into its melodies. Known for their ability to evoke, they have been featured on BBC Radio 1, Jools Holland, and the Glastonbury Festival. Their latest release is ‘Little Door’, a simplistic, storytelling folk track. Narrative frames swirled in with emotion and sweet sentiments, the track feels like a beloved memory.

The soundscape is minimalistic, almost bare. Just rustic string melodies floating about. Spaces are filled in by watercolor memories that lift out of the vocals. That’s how artists like Nick Drake, Simon & Garfunkel, and even Neil Young did it. The ability to bring richness without burdening the soundscape with way too much. Carving out musical subtexts and imaginative worlds, the trio give the listener a world and an emotion to roam in and explore. If you like classic bare folk tracks from the 70s or 80s, then this one is definitely for you.
