Song Review/ Alt Pop : Kiey’s ‘phan thiet’
Kiey is a singer-songwriter and alt pop artist based in the US-UK. He loves to explore with music, going through plush moments of pop to make it into something deeper or more dimensional. Influenced by artists like Lana Del Rey, Britney Spears, Utada Hikaru, Bjork Madonna and Michael Jackson, he is open to it all, to the spectrum of pop to which he is unafraid to bring his own unique culture to.
His latest release is ‘phan thiet’. It’s not just a piece of music but it plays out as a state of mind. As a feeling, an emotion. Designed like a continuum, the song has fluid dynamics and an explorative sound. The mood frames across the song are so vivid. Opening with a FKJ type sublimeness at the intro, it phases into a dark pop with electronica edges. And then a dreamy frame comes along where the vocals soften and so do the melodies. Flowing through these moods of the theme, the listener is drenched immensely in the emotional experience of the song, of the protagonist. So generous with inner worlds, craft, and design. It’s a great track, definitely a must listen!
