Song Review/ Classic Rock : Ink to Spill’s ‘South Side’

Ink to Spill is a singer-songwriter/ classic rock band from Chicago. Their style is wrapped up in reflective storytelling. Both instrumentally and lyrically, they draw us into deep and powerful moments of emotion and feeling. Like in their latest single, ‘South Side’, a story about a girl who is caught in a daily crossfire as she goes from home to school. Her resilience manifests in her artistic spirit, as she expresses it on paper. An escape but also a coping mechanism that makes her art powerful.

The chords are mellow and the vocals hover. It compels you to lean in, listen deeply to the subtext. So raw and bare, they lay it all out, portraying the tense yet creative psyche of the little girl as she tries to understand the world as it is. To witness that transference of reality to imagination in this authentic space makes you feel so human and connected to being human. Listen Now!
