Song Review/ Electronica : Larry Karpenko’s ‘The Horizon’

Larry Karpenko is a versatile artist. He lets his music take on the energy and spirit of the theme. That’s why, with every song, we see a fresh style, new rhythm, and a memorable dynamism. For his latest release, ‘The Horizon’, he explores the pulse of modern electronica. Approaching it like a composer/ producer, he molds, chisels, and forges the instrumental to reach the theme. While in his previous release, ‘The River’, we see a soft, mellow, contemplative alt folk design, this is a sharp 180 degree shift.

The beats are active, riding potent waves of recurring basslines. It then flows out, moves into an evasive vocal whisper, dispersing into that loop before getting hooked into the straight shooting, darting melody line. Each element of the song seems to have its own distinct purpose and consciousness. And reconciling them all, with an intention of exploring and experimenting, the artist creates a unique piece.
