Song Review/ Folk : Cassy Judy’s ‘Orchestra of Death’

Cassy Judy has just released her single, ‘Orchestra of Death’ alongside Jewelz and Lisa Hanssens. It’s folk-pop theatre with dramatic elements and immersive performances. The songwriting is quite clever and playful. It has a remarkably retro atmosphere to it. The modernity is brought in with the transient nature of the storytelling. As the expressive vocals are shaped by Jewelz Hanssens, the instrumentals create a rustic orchestra, shaping characters and world-building. The context forms simply and simultaneously, transporting us to the raw and rustic street performances back in the day.

In fact, this transportation is almost immediate. As soon as the song starts to play, you’ll be engulfed in the playful worlds that they’re building. Lisa Hanssens comes in for the second act. With her low vocal tone and emotion, she joins in on the witty scenes that Jewelz has started on. There’s a lot of dark humor and wry, deadpan mood to the song. The contrast between the uplifting energy of the instrumentals and the nonchalance of the vocals creates the track. That plane where comedy meets music, tragedy, dimension, dread, drama and everything in between. That’s where artistic expression really flourishes. If you enjoy artists like The Divine Comedy and Regina Spektor, you’ll love this piece. Listen Now!
