Talia Grace Weaves Alt Folk With Contemplative Pop in EP ‘From Under You’

Talia Grace is a soul artist. It is evident in her compositional style, her lyrical evocation, and the contemplative quality of her compositions. The singer-songwriter blurs the horizon between alt folk and contemporary pop to create a transient sonic space where consciousness, intimate sentiments, and soft thoughts exist. To listen to her is to be invited into this enchanted space of introspective storytelling and meditative reflection. Hailing from Los Angeles, the artist has not only claimed this niche but perfected it, with artistic inspirations from artists like Bon Iver, Copeland, Phoebe Bridges, and Noah Gunderson.

Talia’s latest release is her ‘From Under You EP’. It is a four-track collection that delves into the cracks, crevices, fractures, and mirages of a broken heart to entail the journey from love, heartache, healing, and growth. Meant to chronicle a growing pain of sorts, it has the nostalgia and fondness of a mature / retrospective lens.

‘The Girl Before The Girl’ opens the EP. Lined with a dallying piano melody, Talia’s vocals unfurl in slow motion. Full of memory and emotion, her storytelling frames are something you instantly fall in love with. The lyrical genius is even comparable to the likes of Taylor Swift, especially in the way the artist is able to capture intricate experiences with beautiful verses. ‘Lavender Latte’ follows in the dulcet footsteps of its predecessor. The acoustics have a glimmer of folk, texturally. Her vocals with its poetic-melodrama-sad girl aesthetic is reminiscent of Lana Del Rey.

The tracks have a neo-classical dimension to them as well. Apart from the piano parts, Talia’s vocals rise and fall with traditional evocations. In ‘Smoke’, it becomes especially pronounced. The resonant ambience allows these contours to form and thrive. ‘Greedy Reminders’ explores age, growth, and change; in all the ways they interact with the world and society. She mourns the passing of girlhood but also grieves for the boys who are forced to grow up too fast. Through brackets of memory, she allows the melancholy to flow, perhaps to a space of peace and serenity. Listen Now!
