EP Review/ Classical : Hilgrove Kenrick and Ǣfendrēama’s ‘Four Songs for Christmastime’

Hilgrove Kenrick and Ǣfendrēama have just released a four-song EP for this Christmas season. ‘Four Songs for Christmastime’ features angelic and choral music that solemnly explores the birth story of Jesus. The compositions are crafted to immerse the listener with nuanced details, emotions, imagery, and ambiences. In ‘Winter’s Breath’ they represent the loneliness, the expanse, and the silent white of the scene. All with a sense of supernaturality forming just at the horizon, at the brink of happening. ‘Here is the Man’ is a choral celebration. It is as classical as they come, a choir singing in abject excitement. There are theatrical elements as they lean into a lot of that traditional style.

‘When They Saw The Star’ is an oozing, ethereal, and angelic song that brims out of the speakers. The vocals layering each other, both in emotion and sentiment builds into it. Composed to capture the magic, the miracle that was the star. The divine orientation. ‘I Wonder as I Wander’ is the last single. This one is joyful, full of love, hope as they contemplate on the nature of the faith, of their God and the trust that they share.

The EP was a collaborative effort of Hilgrove Kendrick, Ǣfendrēama, and Chloe May Evans. Each of them bring such beautiful features to the EP, they own grace, craft, and style in a way that will move you. It’s a great way to experience the season this time of year. Listen Now!
