Album Review/ Alt Folk : Michellar’s ‘Reverie … From Then Till Now’
Michellar’s latest album is ‘Reverie .. From Then Till Now’, a collection that readily demonstrates the prolific talent and musical abilities of Michellar. The songwriter and her ability to slip effortlessly into a variety of styles, musical form, emotional atmospheres, and creative concept is captured within this album. Collaborating with fellow vocalists and musicians, she brings the album to life. Fresh and frothing with alt folk accents, it’s reminiscent of artists like Joni Mitchell and Carole King.
Listening to the collection, it does transport you into memories, moments, and life experiences of the protagonist. It swirls with picturesque frames, so warm and full of heartfelt character. There are so many moments of freshness and literary depth that will put in a watercolored dream.
‘Its Another Year’ is the perfect start to the album. With its hopeful tones and dreamy mood, it allows us to grow into the New Year 2026. The track has a rustic, vulnerable, and confessional flavor, which instantly lends comfort to the listener. In tracks like, ‘Promise’, ‘September’, and ‘Reverie’, we feel a similar draft. So homely, cozy, and full of warmth to keep you feeling and alive as the world becomes ensconced with snow.
There are some country influenced folk tracks with crisp acoustics and sharp tones. ‘Running Wild’ and ‘Intersection’ have a more dynamic rhythm, tangled with acoustics in a delightful way that will make you also dynamic. The vocals are warm baritones that hold so much energy, jolly, and stories. ‘Intersection’ has such a unique makeup. It could be easily made into a synth-pop disco composition, or a rock n roll song. The album has a way of infusing vitality in the listener with its tones, tales, and themes.
‘We Can Both Fall’ is a slow-dancing, gladdening, country folk song. So contemplative and beautiful and sweet that you could just cry a whole river. Listening to this song, the scenic backdrop automatically forms, the thoughts whirl around and the feelings awaken. Gracie Lou’s voice is heartwarming. ‘The Letter’ is also an intimate flow that draws you in deeper and vastly into yourself. It’s reflective, literary, and touching.
‘Get Me There to Church’ has so much frolic to it. The country crispness is blended with folk softness, Joni Mitchell meets Steven Nash & Young. ‘Conquer all with love’ is a choral type anthem, a way of wielding love, just spreading it as if in an arena. It spans, spreads and grows into you. The album is such a boost of positivity and energy, a perfect way of starting the year. Listening to it feels like you’ve gotten an incredible B12 shot. A really beautiful space to begin from. Listen Now!
