Album Review/ Country : Nicole Hart’s ‘Get Up’

We’re all, as people influenced by the places we’re born in and the places we go to. Born in Rust Belt, Virginia and based in the Netherlands, Nicole Hart brings these influences to her music. The artist marries her rustic southland, country style with soft, European influences to create a unique and pleasant listening plane. Her latest release is ‘Get Up’, a twelve track album that perfectly represents her evolving and fluid sense of style. The album is produced and released in collaboration with Swedish songwriter and producer, Kent B Nyberg of Pomrox Studio. Together, they’ve created a collection of music that immerses you in feelings.

The album is meant to inspire resilience and strength in the listener to get up, dust themselves up and keep going. Not with just words. But with music crafted to bolster, uplift and remind you what you’re made up of. It’s the kind of music that has a natural ability to pierce through and get into the loops of the listener. Tracks like ‘Get Up’,  ‘Go and No Go’, ‘Sunrise in My Bones’ and ‘Sunset Dreams’ have such bright and luminous soundscapes. That rustic country instrumentals percolate as they build into soft R&B/ Soul vocals. There are playful moments that lighten the mood and uplifting peaks that draw you out of that dark place and take you with it. The lyrics have a charming simplicity to them with pops of wit, metaphors and some memorable quotes.

There are slower and contemplative tracks that are mixed into the album. Songs that are meant to both allow you to feel sad but also see the light of day. A dual mosaic with gradients that let you be two things at once. Tracks like ‘Slow Dance’, ‘Driving Down Memory Lane’, and ‘Midnight Whispering’ create reflective frames. They curate quiet, personal spaces where you can be vulnerable and softly gather your energy and strength. These are the healing tracks because they have a way of reminding you who you are in the midst of all the chaos.

‘Dusty Exit’ and ‘Spinning Head’ have a country rock flavour that shakes up the energy in the album. With pronounced riffs, slapping beats, drifting grooves and bold vocals, they immediately change the atmosphere of the queue. It is fun, emotional, and gives you a boost that you can just keep on flying with.

And just like this, the collection is made with so much love and autobiographical material. That gives it a lot of power and an incredible energy that you can’t just leave behind. So the only thing you can do is get up and just go with it. Listen Now!

The album is available for streaming and purchase on Bandcamp!
