Album Review/ Piano : Magdi Aboul-Kheir’s ‘One Last Dance’
Magdi Aboul-Kheir is a music journalist, pianist and composer from Germany. This artist showcases an incredible passion for explorative compositions in his latest release, ‘One Last Dance’ album. It is a collection of ten instrumentals that cast an air of deep contemplation and thought meditation. The listening experience is marked by floating atmospheres of evocation, quietly transcendental and profoundly layered.
There are tracks that you can swear are telling you stories. ‘Calliope’s Embrace’, ‘A Quiet Yes’, and ‘One Last Dance’ have a way of transporting you to scenes and frames. Events that lift into the mind. The melodies have a way of evoking imagery and pulls you into sequencing them. A montage plays along. The best way to listen to these tracks is to give into its imaginative cues and let yourself watch the tale unravel. It can prove to be very inspiring when you’re doing something creative.
Tracks like ‘From Depth to Depth’, ‘Carousel of the Mind’ and ‘Veil of Fog’ draw you into yourself. Made as continuums, they are momentous. And each point of melody takes you deeper and calls you to fold into yourself. The tone of these tracks are reflective. They are made to explore not to drown the listener in their thoughts. With its gentle and serene rhythm, you can travel to the spaces you want and see what comes up. These are great for meditation because they create soft inceptions that you can use as anchors. The ambience of these tracks are rich and full of interpretative gold. So each time you listen, you can create a whole new journey for yourself.
Other tracks like ‘When Smiles Return’ and ‘Enchanted By Your Light’ have deliberately lighter moments and luminosity to them to usher the theme. The melodies have deep emotional ethos, wrapped up in soft and sentimental tones to create a moving scene. These also tell a story, take you to a difficult journey that you made out of. Moments fill up inside you and they well up and move something inside.
All these tracks have a beautiful impact of making the listener feel present and human. It awakens deeply human qualities like curiosity, enquiry, reflection, and contemplation. Each one celebrates the listener’s consciousness. And with its stillness and soft moment, it dilates the present in ways that you can be present and feel, be intentional and vulnerable. Listen Now!
