Album Review/ Indie Rock : Blueprint Tokyo’s ‘Dark New Days’

Blueprint Tokyo is an indie rock band. Their soundscapes are made like forces. With a deep instrumental ethos, strong vocals and a driving guitar line, the songs come off the speakers. It fills the mind, the room and the day. Their latest release is ‘Dark New Days’, an EP that showcases some of their best work. The collection reinforces the band’s love for explorative flows and layered music. Each track presents immense worlds and possibilities. They not only put forth the best of rock, but celebrate the versatility of rock music.

‘Orange Tiger’ opens the EP. The song forges the theme with storytelling, contemplations, mood, making it a memorable journey worth taking. It has that mystical atmosphere. A dark fantastical instrumental make, filled with hypnotic vocal lines and vivid visuals. There is a surreal feeling to the sound. This is progressively bolstered with basslines, beats and electric guitar lines.

There are a few tracks in the EP that boast alternative frames and sequences. Made with a tight tempo, diffusing basslines, and a brimming army of riffs, they get to be quite the sensation. ‘Here’s Your Story’ falls under this category. The track showcases power, zeal, and an ardent spirit. The intensity is unapologetic. The band commits to the theme and it flourishes with a consuming grandeur. We see cinematic dimensions, retro linking up with the infinities of the alternative universe.

In tracks like ‘Change My Mind’ and ‘Art of Betrayal’, we encounter the buoyant and mellow indie pulses that are reminiscent of bands like Modest Mouse and The Strokes. It is a little bit riff heavy, coarse and abundant as they are. With a lifting pop-reminiscent chorus, it leads you to the doorstep of bands like Imagine Dragons and the like.

‘Nite Valerie’ is on the other end of indie rock. With glassy shoegaze textures, chromatism, and fluid, almost psychedelic visuals, the track is an auditory treat. It is vital and full of musical sensibilities. Think a blend between the cerebral flows of Tame Impala blended with the thoughtful and evocative style of Coldplay. That’s what this track feels like.

The EP presents the prolific range that the band is capable of. Relative to their previous work, you feel as though they are in constant motion, fluid and just going where the journey takes them. The trajectory of their sonic evolution feels authentic and boundless. Definitely a journey worth going on with this one. Listen Now!
