Album Review/ Jazz : C’batch’s ‘The Vault 1’

C’batch’s album ‘The Vault 1’ was released in March of this year (2026). It is smooth jazz, soul and blues for the soul. The artist sets out eighteen instrumentals, each one so vivid and vast in its ambit. It’s a journey. The tracks have a detailed ambience, one that expresses without having to use words. It perfumes the air and the mind, sending you down thoughtful and contemplative roads.

The album opens with ‘Song For God’. Made like a landscape, the artist sets up the backdrop like a floating valley, moving as if you’re driving past it. And at the forefront is the guitar line that carves the theme into life. Lot of positive vibrations in the track. There are moments of softness, joy, surrender and praise.

If you like artists like FKJ who play with ambience and forge dimensions and layers within them. Then you’ll love C’Batch. In ‘Just Into You (Alternate2*)’ and Let Me Be The One, you’ll see the new age minimalism and exploration.

‘Next Time (I Won’t Be Falling)’ is a soul/ R&B track with a pop spirit. The sentiment and the style will take you back to artists like Back Street Boys and Blue. That 90s goodness that’ll make you feel all the feels.

The other tracks in Disc 1 like ‘Song for Frank G’, ‘I Like It (Shobedobedobedoo)’ bring the Funk Jazz atmosphere. With nicely laid out cymbals, box grooves and a jazz line flowing through it all, the artist details a lengthy odyssey. ‘Phunk Fusion (With A P.H.D)’ is a dynamic and playful musical piece. It is charming, curious and keeps you feeling light. It darts and flows, builds and brims. Such a spontaneous listening experience. ‘Such Desire 2’ is moody, sensual, intense and full of grooves. With moments of intense emotion and passion, it dances with fresh romance.

Disc 2 also offers up a creative blend of funk, jazz and blues, each one presenting themes in such refreshing ways. There are new versions of the tracks in disc 1. It’s as if each track is surrounded by context from another song. The more you listen to the music, the more nuance you can see. You’ll be able to spot the webs that inspired the tracks. It’s a fun and immersive listening experience. Definitely a music listen!
