Album Review/ Jazz - Kamila Csenge’s ‘Behind The Universe’
Kamila Csenge is a guitarist and musical composer. Having graduated with the highest achievement in Guitar Performance, she brings a whole new plane of technical innovation and possibility to her music. Her compositions are known to come alive. The layers, depth and dimensions that she traverses are not commonly walked. They grow into the song and keep growing bigger and bigger.
Her latest release is ‘Behind The Universe’, a bluesy jazz underworld of music that she journeys through with her guitar. The atmospheres that you’ll encounter in this album are so vividly unique. The technique and spontaneity might be that of jazz you know. But the doors that they open into are new, explorative and experimental.
‘The Void’ opens the collection. It immediately showcases the thematic nuance that the artist is able to get to. With sophisticated playing and effortless technique. Moody and full of secrets and mysteries, the track is like a labyrinth that you unravel into. The more you give, the more you get with this track. You’ll see a few experimental tendrils, so slight that they’re refreshingly awry. And they manifest more thoroughly in tracks like ‘Against The Wall’ and ‘The Point of No Return’.
In tracks like ‘The Metamorphosis’ and ‘Music Forever’, there’s a little bit more of a rhythm ambiguity. Stretched and shortened with a spontaneity that feels slapstick. In some moments, they feel intended, with a depth that is both technical and cerebral. A duality arises when these tracks are listened alongside their neighbours. ‘Guardians of the Garden’ and ‘This World’ are slower with beautifully detailed ambience. Like fine embroidery, the artist crafts the soundscape with small pieces of melody, intricate patterns, and momentous emotions. While the former has little bit more of a cascading rhythm, the latter grows into the rhythm like leaves on a branch.
And like this, the artist beautifully builds worlds with her guitar. Giving her performance and melodies thoughtful and evocative atmospheres, she creates feelings that you can get lost in. Listen Now!
