Album Review/ Prog Rock : Wingfish’s ‘Dyads’
Wingfish is an explorative artist. He doesn’t settle for the known or the conventional. The music is meant to showcase new planes of thought and ideas, a new headspace almost that you can get into to see the world differently. His latest release is the ‘Dyads’ album, a collection of alt rock songs that build progressive rock into thoughtful clouds of music. It's experimental with that fineness of classic rock and blues.
Tracks like ‘Gentle Alley’, ‘100 Ways to Go - Live 24’, and ‘Bad Seeds - Live 24’ especially have that deep 70s classic rock feel. The atmosphere is moody with moments of silky grooves and warm chords. His vocals have a drawling appeal to them. It shines with blues and draws the moodiness out. If you fall in love with his blues, there are a few other tracks from this artist that celebrate it.
‘Sacred Place’ is more of a prog rock song. However, its droning vocal frames grow into a phasing classic rock scene. It is in the second track of the album, a bridge of sorts that showcases the artist’s journey between the two styles. And all the ways in which he forges a relationship between the two. ‘Blown - 2025 Version’ has a harder groove, a nu metal feel. Emphatic and bold, it slams into the track. But there is even in this track, a more dilated space, that ambiguous plane that is open for interpretation and is full of feeling and emotion.
‘If You Say So - Live 24’ and ‘Someone Else - Live 24’ showcase two kinds or ranges of rock and blues that the artist is capable of. The former is a softer and more contemplative track. It has a lot of dilated spaces that the listener can pour into and feel it all. The latter, however, has a more melancholic feel. The narrative is strong here, a tale that weaves through deep moments of heartache and melodrama that cultivates nicely. The collection is valuable because it thinks outside the box, and brings modern rock to timeless design and appeal. Listen Now!
