EP Review/ Ambient : Keisuke Yoshizawa’s ‘Zero’
Keisuke Yoshizawa delivers a conceptual masterpiece with his three-part EP, ‘Zero’. The experience of this forms in the space where ambient music meets minimalistic piano formations and modern electronic design. The artist is not creatively restricted by the bounds of conventional music. He leans into the experimental space, drawing a unique and novel language to express himself in.
This three-track EP has a total runtime of 5 minutes. Each track has an average of 1:30 minutes. They each set up a state of mind that you carry into the next, creating an abstract atmosphere of evocation. It’s especially interesting because you’ll feel the life that lives within these soundscapes. The art is alive and you can really feel it on the other side. It compels you to lean in and listen deeply.
The EP opens with ‘Zzz’. It sets up an expansive space. Piano melodies float in the air, leaving behind a scattering resonance that the artist develops into an expansive mood. Pensive and elaborate, the track plays with dulcet sensibilities and dazing evocation.
‘birth’ comes in next. A track that is mellow; almost gossamer. With small motifs of melody and sound, it builds gradually. The silence in between the notes details its own patterns within the track. Longer piano motifs swim through, pausing for a lull and then carrying on. Prima facie, it is minimalistic. However, the sensibilities that forms beneath this surface are vast. Like an iceberg, the loftiness is revealed to those who go looking beneath the surface.
‘SiF’ is the culminating single of the EP. This track brings the ambient classicals to collaborate with experimental electronica. The ambience of this song is hypnotic and immersively so. The musical patterns that your mind picks up on become your anchor. Each time, you’ll find a new motif, a different piece of melody or plane of music to absorb in. At that point, the world of SiF that you’re familiar with, shifts and rearranges itself. It’s a continuum with many points of reality and significance. Listen Now!
