Song Review/ Classic Rock : DownTown Mystic’s ‘Maybe Love’s A Crime’

DownTown Mystic is a rock n roll band that spreads out and spans across decades of rock. They have such a prolific style and a stylistic fluidity that is worth looking into and listening for. Their latest release is ‘Maybe Love’s A Crime’. A track that creeps along the feel-good and warm sensibilities of folk rock and roots. With blues swimming all over it, the track almost sparkles into life. The piano is the most expressive instrumental in the song. It is followed by a mellow plucked banjo line.

The vocals, inspired by 60s classic rock and rock n roll walks on by, expressive and full of sentiment. There’s also a little bit of that 80s Brit style roots rock influence as well. The track is incredibly romantic. The roots-style guitar, storytelling vocals, piano driven blues rock and retro American style production takes you right back to artists like Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Rockpile, and Nick Lowe.
