Song Review/ Indie Funk : Longboat’s ‘A Fox in Hoxton’

Longboat is an indie funk project that brings its vision alive with explorative and experimental electronica. Longboat’s latest single is ‘A Fox in Hoxton’. The track is a mellow flow, wandering through lofi landscapes of beat and melody. Made with dry grooves, textural electronica and simple beats, it is a very simple composition. However, this simplicity seems to conspire and make the feeling deeper and richer, the more you listen to the track.

The vocals sort of fly over the scene of the soundscape, occasionally dipping in to transfer and absorb energy. It has a convoluted flow. Feels more like an instrument, even though there’s expressive singing and lyricism. The simplicity of the vocals also lead into the vision of the track. There’s almost a sense of absurdism that takes over the soundscape. The stories and mood come together with a surreal tone. It’s not your usual straightforward electronica composition. The artist uses sounds as world building mediums. Embroiling the listener in simple hypnotic swirls, the soundscape scales cerebrally. Listen Now!
