Song Review/ Rock : The 7th Gatekeeper’s ‘You Are My Sunshine’
The 7th Gatekeeper brings a whole new level to the children’s beloved lullaby, ‘You are my Sunshine’ in his latest release of the same name. Casting it in a dark and atmospheric rock fantasy, he explores themes like melancholy, grief and loneliness. Perhaps the aftermath of such a deep attachment to something.
The artist’s vocals are mystifying as they move at snail pace, word to word, dragging across the soundscape. Guitar acoustics clink occasionally and the bass resounds in the far back. There are quick peaks of dark, riff-addled flows before we drop into the haunting cradle of his vocals again. At the bridge, it picks up a high intensity rock drive. Splashy basslines, fiery riffs, slapping beats, and a coarse vocal line that tears through it all. It is quite an interesting song, especially experimental in its rhythms, its format. All in an effort to interpret the specularly beautiful yet destructive instinct of humans to become attached. Listen Now!
